Acupuncture is one part of a complete system of healing known as Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM, that has its roots in China dating back several thousands of years.
Acupuncture
How Does It Work?
Acupuncture uses small, almost hair-thin, surgically sterilized and disposable needles that are placed in certain points on the body. These points are located on energetic channels. In TCM terms, it is the strategic use of these points that regulates and balances the flow of energy and blood in the body, thus allowing for symptom relief.
Laboratory and clinical studies have shown acupuncture to have an effect on the central and peripheral nervous systems. It causes the brain to release opioids, the body’s natural pain killers, as well as other endorphins that moderate the stress response and help to balance hormone levels in the body.

What Can I Expect in a Treatment?
Your acupuncture session will take place in one of our quiet and relaxing treatment rooms. You will discuss your symptoms, health history, and goals with your acupuncturist. Once you settled and get comfortable, the acupuncturist will place needles in accordance with your treatment plan.
You will then relax for at least 30 minutes. A typical initial session might last 90 minutes, while a follow-up session will often last 45 to 60 minutes.

Acupuncturists are highly trained in Western bio-medicine. This allows for a safer and more effective management of the health and well-being of each and every patient. Your acupuncturist can work with your other healthcare providers to establish a plan to meet your needs and goals. Acupuncture treatment plans often work in concert with those set out by medical doctors, specialists and surgeons, physical therapists, chiropractors, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals.
