A HydraFacial is a medical-grade facial treatment that serves to resurface and clear out skin all while hydrating it. It uses the HydraPeel Tip pen to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate by infusing serums into the pores of the facial skin.

Great for all skin types, the HydraFacial MD® Treatment is not only highly effective at improving overall skin health, but also excellent for remedying:

  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Elasticity & Firmness
  • Skin Tone Evenness & Vibrancy
  • Skin Texture
  • Hyperpigmentation/Photo Damage
  • Oily/Congested Skin
  • Enlarged Pores
  • Advanced Signs of Aging

In order to market and use the patented technology, spas must be registered and licensed by HydraFacial.

How Does It Work

Vortex-Fusion® serum delivery system is what sets the HydraFacial MD® apart from other procedures. The multi-step treatment cleanses, evenly exfoliates and extracts to remove impurities and dead skin cells while at the same time replenishing vital nutrients including Antioxidants, Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid. Thanks to the devices’ superior delivery system, these performing ingredients can more effectively reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles for results you can see and feel instantly.

HydraFacial Benefits

Another great thing about the HydraFacial is that it has many add-ons such as lymphatic drainage. The mechanical use of lymphatic drainage will reduce puffiness and speed up the removal of toxins in the body.

Depending on the result you are looking for from your treatment, different serums can be added to reduce signs of aging, for example.

Another addition that is great for overall skin health is the red and blue LED lights that are part of the HydraFacial treatment. These lights help replenish the skin and stimulate new skin growth while calming it after vigorous exfoliation or extractions.

What to Expect:

During a HydraFacial

The treatment itself is done in a four-step process:

  • It will begin with removing the top dead skin cells from the skin by cleansing it.
  • Next, salicylic and glycolic acids will be pumped into the skin with the HydraFacial pen to unclog pores.
  • For extractions, the tip of the pen will vacuum away dirt and oils that cause blackheads and impurities.
  • To finish, your esthetician will use the HydraFacial pen to infuse serums into the skin to hydrate and refresh.

Aftercare recover

We recommend not wearing makeup the same day to ensure the serums do their job and can adequately soak into the skin. Makeup can be applied the following day.

Side Effects

There are minimal side effects. Celebrities get a HydraFacial before a big red-carpet event to have that Hollywood glowing skin.

It is possible to experience some redness after your treatment as well as irritations.

How Often

The effects of a HydraFacial last longer than an average facial treatment. You will notice immediate results from the facial the day of your treatment. To get the most benefit from the HydraFacial is to have multiple treatments. The idea of the HydraFacial is to improve the skin’s appearance and texture over time. Typical every 4-6 weeks is a reasonable time frame to consider another treatment.

The cost of a varies depending on location and whether you are having it done, a medical spa or dermatologist office. Prices generally range from $150-$300

How does HydraFacial differ from Microdermabrasion or a Chemical Peel

Microdermabrasion Vs. HydraFacial

A microdermabrasion uses manual extractions while the HydraFacial uses suction to vacuum away impurities and cleanse. Downtime is less for HydraFacial, whereas Microdermabrasion is more likely to leave your skin more red or irritated. HydraFacial is also more customizable and able to infuse more hydration into the skin.

Actually, you can combine both in a single treatment!

Chemical Peel Vs. HydraFacial

A chemical peel uses acids on the face to remove the layers of skin.

Microdermabrasion – Everything You Need to Know

Fast Facts

  • Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliation treatment that helps thicken collagen resulting in a younger and brighter complexion.
  • Microderm can reduce enlarged pores, treat acne scars, reduce stretch marks and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • This treatment uses a special tool to sand away the top layer of skin removing dead skin cells and built up debris.
  • This is a lunchtime treatment with no down time.
  • Prices range from $50+ depending on how many treatments are needed.
  • Side effects can be redness, swelling and dry/flaky skin.

What is a microdermabrasion facial?

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation treatment with no down time used to refresh the skin by removing the top layer of debris on the skin. Microdermabrasion can improve the appearance of the skin such as acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage and the over all texture and brightness of the skin.

What do microdermabrasions help with?

Microdermabrasion can help with:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Shrinking pores and blackheads
  • Hyperpigmentation and discoloration spots
  • Acne
  • Brightening the skin and getting rid of a dull complexion
  • Uneven skin tone

How does it work?

To start your treatment, your aesthetic professional will cleanse your skin to prepare it for exfoliation. This is a non-invasive treatment with no pain associated, therefore a numbing agent is not necessary. They will then take as many passes over your skin as needed to refresh your skin.

Microdermabrasion tool

The tool uses suction technology to sand off debris and then suction it up and away. The feeling is like a very dull sandpaper but with suction technology. The esthetician always tests the suction of the tool before applying to your face.

Dimond-tip handpiece

The diamond tip uses crushed diamonds to softly exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells and suctioning them off your skin simultaneously. The diamond tip can be a dry treatment or a wet treatment. The pressure of the diamond tip also helps boost blood circulation to stimulate new, fresh cell growth.

The ever-growing popular HydraFacial machine also allows for a duo Hydra and Microdermabrasion facial treatment. This treatment exfoliates and hydrates the skin for healthy, and younger-looking skin.

What to expect for a Microdermabrasion Treatment?

A consultation is always recommended before a new skincare treatment. In a consultation, you will discuss your skincare goals, allergies, and your aesthetician will examine your skin to see how many passes you’ll need by the microdermabrasion tool to the best results as well as if multiple treatments will be necessary.

A microdermabrasion treatment is a non-invasive, lunchtime treatment. You will be able to resume normal activities following your treatment. It is important to stay hydrated and use gentle cleansers flowing your treatment. Avoid using topical acne medications at least one day after.

Sunscreen is always a must following any skincare treatment.

You will notice immediate results with a brighter appearance following your treatment. Depending on the severity of your skin conditions, multiple treatments might be needed to reach the results you are looking for.

What to expect during

During your Microderm treatment, you will not feel any pain. The feeling associated with microderm has been described as how it feels when a “cat licks your face”. It is gentle but with the light effect of sanding away the dead skin cells.

This treatment can be added on to a facial or can be a stand-alone treatment.

Does it hurt

There is no pain with microderm so long as it is done by a trained professional.

How often

Based on your skin goals, your aesthetician will determine how many treatments will give your skin the best results. If you are looking for a brighter complexion, you will see results after one treatment. If you have severe acne or acne scars, multiple treatments spread over a few weeks time span will give you the best results.

Potential Side Effects

Side Effects may include:

  • Mild tenderness
  • Minimal swelling
  • Redness
  • Minor bruising due to the suction process

These symptoms subside after a few hours.

Using a gentle moisturizer will minimize dry or flakey skin as a result of this treatment

Medical insurance does not typically cover the costs of microdermabrasion as it is considered a cosmetic procedure. Depending on which tip and type of microderm you are having done will determine the price. Microderm plus hydra will typically be more expensive than a stand-alone microderm treatment. Prices range from $50 for an add on treatment to $100+ for stand-alone treatments, the average cost being around $130.

Prices range depending on geographic location and provider.

Dermaplaning – Everything You Need to Know

Fast Facts About Dermaplaning

  • The basic concept of dermaplaning is similar to shaving.
  • The sterile blade is dragged slowly across your skin, removing dead skin cells, scar tissue, peach fuzz hairs, and other debris that lays on the surface of your skin.
  • It is not a painful treatment if done correctly.
  • Benefits include softer, smoother skin, reduction of scar appearance, removal of peach fuzz hair, deep exfoliation.
  • Slight redness may appear after a treatment but will subside within a few hours.
  • Breakouts may occur.

What is Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a safe and effective cosmetic exfoliation procedure done most often in a spa.  During a dermaplaning treatment, a surgical scalpel is used to shave the surface of the skin in order to remove dead skin and peach fuzz.

What are the Benefits of Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning has many benefits. Dermaplaning:

  • helps provides deeper product penetration for improved skincare ruitines
  • Removes peach fuzz that traps dirt and oils
  • Promotes smoother skin
  • Can help with cystic acne
  • removes dead skin cells
  • Reduces the appearance of acne scars
  • Diminishes the look of fine lines
  • Works on all skin types
  • Has instant results and no downtime

Who Can Benefit from Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning can be used for all skin type and for those with:

Who Should Avoid Dermaplaning?

Those with acne should avoid dermaplaning as it can cause excessive irritation. It should also be avoided for those with hirsutism.

How Dermaplaning Works

The sterile scalpel is held at 45-degree angle and run along the skin of the face to remove any hair and dead skin cells. The procedure is not used for shaping the eyebrows, as eyebrow hair is much thicker.

It is a stand-alone procedure or can be combined with a facial or chemical peel.  It creates deeper product penetration boosting the effects of the product.  Dermaplaning makes skin look and feel smoother and will reduce the appearance of acne scars.

What to expect for dermaplaning treatments?

Preparing for an appointment

A consultation is always recommended before any type of medical grade facial treatment.

An acne flare up or any open wounds could restrict you from an appointment to avoid further irritation to the skin.

Be sure to discontinue use of any retinol, exfoliating serums, enzymes or facial scrubs 3-5 days prior to treatment to obtain maximum results.

Before any facial, staying out of the sun 5-7 days prior is best. If you skin is at all sunburnt, dermaplaning will irritate the skin like shaving over a sunburn.

If you are using Botox or fillers to enhance your skin, do not schedule dermaplaning within the same week. Due to the downtime from Botox and fillers, it tis best to leave 3-4 days in between separate services.

If you usually wax your face, schedule your wax appointment 1-2 weeks prior to your dermaplaning treatment or 14 days afterwards.

If you use Accutane, it is advised to wait 6-12 months after completing it to receive any type of epidermal treatment.

During The treatment

Once your aesthetic professional has cleansed your skin, they will gently run the sterile blade over the face at a 45-degree angle removing the top layer of dead skin. Dermaplaning can be applied to the whole face, but is not used for shaping the eyebrows. The esthetician will continue going over your skin as long as needed to remove debris.

What to Expect after the procedure – recovery

No downtime is needed after dermaplaning treatment. There is a chance for redness or your skin to feel like it has been scraped but nothing that would restrict you from going on with your day to day activities. It may take a few days to notice results, but ultimately you will see a new brightness and ease in putting on makeup or lotion.

Treatment generally lasts about three weeks. One treatment can clear up three weeks’ worth of debris. Continuous dermaplaning treatments are recommended for optimal results.

Sometimes after treatment, the skin will end up peeling slightly.  This typically only happens when there is not enough time in between treatments to let the hair’s growth cycle be completed.  This is why it is important to leave enough time between visits to get the best results.

There is no need to worry about the hair on your face getting any darker.  Since dermaplaning only targets the vellus hair (peach fuzz), the hair will grow back the same size and color.  It is physiologically impossible for the hair to grow back thicker and dark, so no need to panic and worry.

Risks and Side Effects

Some potential risks or side effects of dermaplaning include:

  • Slight redness may occur for a few hours preceding treatment
  • Whiteheads may appear a day or two following
  • Infections and scars are possible but rare.
  • If done by a trained professional, you should not experience any cuts from the razor.
  • Possibility of patchy skin pigment

How often is dermaplaning performed

Dermaplaning is usually performed every three to four weeks.  It is good to have the skin complete its normal rejuvenation cycle, which is thirty days, before going back and having the treatment done again.  The procedure generally will remove between two to three weeks of dead skin from the facial area.

The cost of dermaplaning varies from an add on service around $50 up to $300+ if you aesthetician suggests adding a second treatment such as a chemical peel for ultimate results. Treatment is not covered by insurance and is charged per session.

Dermaplaning at CNY Healing arts can be added onto a facial treatment for $60 or as a stand-alone treatment for $130

Dermaplaning at Home – is it safe?

Although the dermaplaning tool may be purchased at some locations, it is not recommended to do at home. The treatment should be administered by trained professionals to ensure it is performed correctly. The at-home results will generally not be the same as those done at a spa.

The risk of infection and complications is more significant when done at home as well as experiencing cuts and pain.

Chemical Peels: Everything You Need to Know

Fast Facts About Chemical Peels

  • A Chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure used to improve the overall texture and tone of the skin by removing old, dead skin cells and producing new; like that of a baby’s skin.
  • Chemical Peels are used to treat wrinkles and fine lines, sun damage, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, melasma, blackheads, freckles and dark marks.

  • Chemical peels must only be administered by professional aesthetic professionals.
  • It is important to follow all pre and post care to ensure optimal results.
  • Sun Screen is a must following a peel and for the whole recovery period.

  • Light peels penetrate the outer layer of skin with little to no downtime.
  • Medium peels penetrate the outer plus middle layers of skin cells with some flakiness and a 5-14 day recovery period.
  • Deep peels penetrate the deepest level of the middle layer of skin cells. In this peel you will experience swelling, a burning sensation, flakiness and about a 2-5 week recovery period.

A chemical peel will leave your skin feeling fresh and rejuvenated. It will help increase collagen and produce new skin cells, getting rid of the dry, flaky old surface level cells.

The cost of chemical peels typically range from $130+ depending on the peel.

What is a chemical peel?

A Chemical peel is a cosmetic treatment used to improve the appearance or feel of the skin. A peel exfoliates and eventually peels off leaving the skin underneath smoother, less wrinkled and less damaged. Chemical peels are an accelerated skincare treatment that turns over skin cells and clears out pores.

What does a chemical peel do?

A chemical peel is a skin treatment which is used to improve and smooth out the surface of the facial skin. A chemical solution is used to remove top layers of skin which allows the dead surface skin to peel off. The peeling process leads to new skin growth which is usually smoother, healthier and less wrinkled compared to the old skin. Chemical peels should be performed by aesthetic professionals only. Depending on individual skin type, your esthetician will determine whether you should get a light, medium or deep peel.

What does a chemical peel treat?

Chemical peels, in general, treat a variety of things including:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • sun damage
  • acne scars,
  • hyperpigmentation,
  • scars,
  • melasma and uneven skin tones or redness.
  • Specifically targeted chemical peels can help aide in blackhead removal, freckles, acne, or dark marks.

Benefits of a Chemical Peel

A chemical peel will leave your skin feeling fresh and rejuvenated. It will help increase collagen and produce new skin cells, getting rid of the dry, flaky old surface level cells.

Types of Chemical Peels

The three types of chemical peels are light, medium and deep.

Light/Superficial Peels:

This peel penetrates the outer layer of the skin to gently exfoliate it. A light/superficial peel improves the appearance of mild skin discoloration and rough skin as well as refreshing the face, neck or hands. The light peel requires 4-7 days to heal. Skin may be pink to red in color and may or may not flake. Gentle cleansers and moisturizers should be applied until skin heals along with daily use of sunscreen.

Medium Peel:

Requires 5-14 days to heal. Skin may become pink to red with the possibility of swelling. Before revealing fresh skin, you will form crusts and blotches that will eventually go away. The medium peel penetrates the outer plus middle layer of the skin to remove damaged skin cells.

Deep Peel:

This peel fully penetrates the middle layer of the skin to removed cells. In a deep peel, you will see the most flakiness and peeing of the skin during the 7-14 day recovery period. After this peel, your skin will swell and be red with throbbing or burning sensations. It is common for redness to last longer than the 2 week recovery period. Your esthetician will give you specific instructions on how to ease the discomfort with the deep chemical peel.

After all peels, gentle cleansers and moisturizers should be applied until skin heals along with daily use of sunscreen. It is best to stay completely out of the sun unti your skin heals.

How to prepare for a chemical peel

Before your treatment, a consultation is recommended with a skin care specialist. During this visit, your specialist will help you determine what the best treatment option is for your skincare needs. They’ll ask questions about your skin, analyze to see which peel will suite your skin accordingly, give you details about the peel that is best for your skin and ask about anything that could interfere with the peel, such as medications or allergies.

If you are on any prescription retinols or topicals, you will need to stop using them 5-10 days prior to your chemical peel.

To not cause a reaction, your skin must not be exposed to sun a few weeks prior to your treatment.

If you have Melasma, a pre-treatment is recommended for optimal results.

What to expect during a chemical peel?

During your chemical peel, you will feel a slight burning sensation depending on the depth of the peel. Your esthetician may put on a few layers after seeing how your skin reacts. The deeper the peel, the more you will feel. The burning sensation will subside shortly after it is neutralized. The peel will only stay on the skin for a few minutes. Your skin may feel tight while the peel is on. Your skin may become pink to red pending the depth of the peel. The feeling will be that of a sun or wind burn.

Chemical Peel After Care & Recovery Time?

After your peel, your skin may experience some flakiness within the next few days after. Try to avoid putting anything on the skin including makeup, cleanser and moisturizer the day of the chemical peel. You can apply makeup the next day but once your skin starts shedding, avoid makeup. The shedding will last anywhere from 2 to 14 days depending on the peel.

After your chemical peel, avoid all exfoliation. Treat your skin with gentle cleansers and gentle moisturizers. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and most importantly- use sunscreen daily! Your skin will be fresh and new like that if a baby.

Chemical Peel Risks/Safety

Possible side effects of a chemical peel include:

  • Lightening or darkening of the skin color
    • This is more common in people with darker skin tones.
  • Scarring
    • With the possibility of permanent scars

    • If you are someone with the herpes simplex, you make experience flare ups after a chemical peel. Fungal and bacterial infections are possible but rare.
  • Heart, liver or kidney damage.
    • Due to the phenol used. Check with your doctor prior to treatment if you think this could affect you.

Sun Burn or Sun poisoning can occur if you do not apply sunscreen following a peel.

Stronger Body, Blissful Mind with Acupuncture

Picture this: You’re lying in a quiet, peaceful room; your mind is at ease, and your body is relaxed. This is what acupuncture feels like. While you’re in this blissful state, you’re also helping to defend your body against colds and other illnesses. That’s because acupuncture is a preventative eastern medicine which boosts the immune system.

Typically, October-May is cold and flu season. Feeling run down and stressed out (especially during the busy holiday season) adds to the problem by weakening our immunity. If we have already felt overwhelmed to begin with, this can lead to chronic stress. Acupuncture can help us cope with stress, therefore, helping our bodies stay strong to fight off bacterial and viral invaders.

The acupuncture needles are extremely small, thin, and flexible (they’re roughly the diameter of two hairs or much like the diameter of a cat’s whisker!). Many clients state that they don’t feel anything at all or an ever so slight sensation when the needles are inserted. The trained and experienced acupuncturists at CNY Healing Arts Centers can help you to first feel calm through various needle insertions, and then the body follows in a very relaxed state.

The energy or ‘Qi’ in the body begins to travel more effectively, heart rate is lowered, and breathing tends to slow down as the body becomes relaxed and the energy becomes balanced.

The increased levels of cortisol that we have during times of stress decrease with acupuncture. When this occurs our body does what it’s supposed to do—fight off infections. Acupuncture also helps our immune system by increasing serotonin and endogenous opioid peptide levels which are like the body’s natural pain killers, as well as easing muscle tension. Many people note that they feel increased energy after an acupuncture session.

Massage for Summer Allergies

More than 2/3 of people suffer from year-round allergies.  Summer is here and we’re picnicking in the grass, the beautiful flowers are blooming around us, and we’re spending more time outdoors—it’s all part of fabulous summer!  For those who have allergies, though, it can become a challenge.

As the summer months progress, ragweed or hay fever allergies tend to rise.  The body’s natural defense is to produce excess mucous which often creates nasal congestion and red, itchy eyes which can all lead to fatigue (and frustration)!  Working outdoors with plants and in gardens can expose people to mold spores that are contained on the plants themselves and in the soil.  Mold spores can also increase indoors during the hot, humid months of summer in basements, and on floors and walls in bathroom and kitchen areas.  Even cats and dogs, our ‘fur friends’, are shedding their coats this time of year which can aggravate those with pet dander allergies as well.

Stress and allergies sometimes go hand in hand.  When the body is under stress, it reacts in an exaggerated response to allergens.  The body fights the allergens with coughing, sneezing, wheezing which can put greater stress on the body creating a vicious cycle!  This is because stress increases the adrenal gland’s production of cortisol triggers the sympathetic nervous system to create extra epinephrine and norepinephrine, decreasing the effectiveness of the immune system.

Massage for allergies is a great way to get soothing relief.  Massage can help the body’s reaction to the allergens.  Many of the trigger points for the sinuses are located in the upper back and shoulder which are massaged for relief.  Headaches and congestion can also be relived through this procedure.

CNY Healing Arts Centers provide relaxing massages that can help alleviate your allergy symptoms, as well as to reduce stress and increase your body’s immune system.  For more information, please contact one of our centers nearest you:

Facials: Healthy Skin = Beautiful Skin

Our skin is the largest organ we have and it serves a number of roles, from protecting us from pathogens to keeping us hydrated—it’s our first-line of defense!   Facials not only help to facilitate this role, but also leave us with healthy skin that looks fabulous!

When you visit us, a skin care specialist will determine the condition of your skin and your skin type and then they will customize a facial treatment just for you.

Based on your personalized skin consultation, the specialist will be able to provide you with a cleansing routine which is individualized.  Exfoliation of the skin will help to increase cell turnover and promote even-toned skin.  A well-matched moisturizer will not only make your skin look and feel hydrated, it will also offer protection from the elements.

Facials may include massages which aid with lymphatic drainage.  During a face massage, muscles are warmed and the lymph nodes stimulated to open and enhance circulatory and toxin removal.  This is one of the reasons why a healthy, bright glow is apparent after receiving treatment!  Antioxidants which contain vitamin A and E can help to remove pollutants from the body.

Relaxation is another benefit in receiving spa facials.  Much of our tension is held in our face from our brow bone to our necks, and a massage given during the facial reduces this tension.  The use of the products during the treatment also provides aromatherapy and a soothing calm.

Our specialists at CNY Healing Arts offer facials that alleviate dry skin, oily skin, and combination skin, sensitive skin that will leave your face looking and feeling completely refreshed and refined.  It also offers a great time to ask any questions that you may have concerning your skin care routine such as which types of products to use for your skin type to leave you glowing all year round!

Our staff at CNY Healing Arts Centers would love to assist with a facial treatment just for you!  Please call us or just stop in and give us the opportunity to help you. It would be our pleasure!

Massage: The Perfect Remedy

Massage Therapy at CNY Healing Arts Wellness CenterMassage is a touch therapy that is not only a wonderfully pleasurable and relaxing experience, but also brings with it countless health benefits. A massage session can relieve tension in the body, calm the mind, and nourish the soul, bringing healing on a number of levels simultaneously. An extensive body of research supports the therapeutic claims of massage, with growing evidence that it can contribute to the relief of conditions such as stress, depression, and anxiety. It can also assist with self esteem, release emotional blocks, increase mental clarity, and help you connect to your “inner light”. Having a massage can be relaxing and refreshing leaving you feeling connected and balanced. It is about taking time out to restore harmony and well-being so that you feel ready to take on the world again.

On a physiological level, massage affects all the body systems, resulting in improved general functioning, as well as relieving specific conditions throughout the body. Massage causes breathing to deepen and the blood vessels and capillaries to dilate, which boosts circulation and helps oxygenate the blood. Improved circulation also means that vital nutrients are carried around the body more effectively, while temporarily reducing blood pressure and pulse rate.

The massage therapista at CNY Healing Arts are highly trained and experienced in massage therapy. We customize your session for you. Whether you are looking for a Deep Tissue Massage for relieving chronic areas of muscle tension and stress, or a Relaxation Massage to gently unwind and rejuvenate your mind and body, we have just what you need. We also feature our Signature Citrus Body Scrub and our soothing Hot Stone Massage to take your relaxation to the next level. Come early or stay after your session to enjoy our state of the art spa facility, with saunas, steam showers, and our Aqua Terrace. Yoga classes run daily for your enjoyment as well.

Massage for Muscle Recovery

Massage Therapy at CNY Healing Arts Wellness CenterSummer is the time of year when many of us spend a great deal of our time outdoors enjoying our favorite activities.  Gardening, kayaking, biking, running, walking, swimming – they all are fun ways to get outdoors and enjoy the lovely weather, and they are good for us!  However, sometimes enjoying them can be a pain—a pain in the neck, shoulders, legs, etc.!

A massage is a terrific way to work through muscle tension that we may encounter after strenuous exercise and work.  Massage relaxes the body, feels terrific, helps with inflammation, improves blood flow, reduces muscle tightness, and enhances muscle performance.

Many people take medication to ease soreness and eliminate swelling for aching muscles.  The inflammation (an immune reaction) is actually the body’s way of repairing injured cells due to tiny tears in muscle fibers caused during strenuous exercise; therefore, medication can inhibit recovery.  Recent research (published in the 2/1/2012 issue of Science Translational Medicine) shows that massage can aid in reducing inflammation and enhance cell function to actually repair cells unlike medication.

There are many different types of massage techniques, and our massage therapists work with you to meet your needs.  A deep tissue massage focuses on the area in which you are experiencing pain to give you maximum relief.  Adhesions (or bands of sore tissue) are massaged to reduce inflammation, restore proper blood circulation, and create better movement.  Massage also acts as a preventative to enhance your physical activities because it targets those muscles which you use frequently!

In addition to these physical benefits, massage therapy stimulates the nervous system that release endorphins and assist in pain relief.  Massage allows relaxation of mind and tensed-up muscles which provides relief, and can speed up recovery time – allowing you to get back to the activities that you enjoy!

Give CNY Healing Arts Centers a call and let our massage therapists give you the relief you need!
