What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one part of a complete system of healing known as Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM, that has its roots in China dating back several thousands of years. TCM also includes dietary therapy, herbal medicine, body work and other adjunctive techniques. Acupuncture uses small, almost hair-thin, surgically sterilized and disposable needles that are placed in certain points
on the body. These points are located on energetic channels. In TCM terms, it is the strategic use of these points that regulates and balances the flow of energy and blood in the body, thus allowing for symptom relief.

How does Acupuncture work?
Laboratory and clinical studies have shown Acupuncture to have an effect on the central and peripheral nervous systems. It causes the brain to release opioids- the body’s natural pain killers, as well as other endorphins that moderate the stress response and help to balance hormone levels in the body.

What can I expect in a treatment?
Your acupuncture session will take place in one of our quiet and relaxing treatment rooms. You will discuss your symptoms, health history, and goals with your acupuncturist. You will be made comfortable and needles will be placed in accordance with your treatment plan. You will then relax for at least 30 minutes. A typical initial session might last 1.5 hours, while a follow-up session will often last 45 to 60 minutes.

What does Acupuncture treat?
As a complete medical system, acupuncture and Chinese medicine can treat a broad range of illnesses and conditions including:

• acute and chronic painful conditions
• addictions
• allergies and asthma
• anxiety and depression
• dermatological disorders
• digestive disorders
• fertility issues
• hormonal imbalances
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)
• pre and post-natal symptoms
• stress relief
• weight loss

migraineWhat about Acupuncture for Fertility and Pregnancy?
Acupuncturists at CNY Healing Arts are highly experienced in treating all of the previously listed conditions. Our Acupuncturists are also extensively trained in assisting those attempting to achieve pregnancy naturally and those who are undergoing fertility treatments. Each day, they work together with the staff at CNY Fertility Center to assist couples in achieving their dream of pregnancy. And, they continue to work with women, once pregnant, to moderate symptoms and help to prepare a woman’s body for labor and delivery.

How often will I need to receive Acupuncture?
Frequency of treatments varies in all cases. When beginning a course of treatments, weekly sessions are often recommended for several weeks. Specific recommendations are made when working in concert with fertility treatments and during pregnancy.

Will my Acupuncturist be able to work with my other healthcare providers?
Acupuncturists are highly trained in Western bio-medicine. This allows for a safer and more effective management of the health and well-being of each and every patient. Your
acupuncturist can work with your other healthcare providers to establish a plan to meet your needs and goals. Acupuncture treatment plans often work in concert with those set out by medical doctors, specialists and surgeons, physical therapists, chiropractors, nutritionists,
and many others.
