In My Words
cnyfc newsletter

Experiences bring together people’s energy and ignite their souls, sometimes creating a change for life. We invited some of our yoga for fertility clients to share their experiences with you.

“Regular yoga is wonderful when trying to get pregnant, but there is something really special about coming together with a group of strong women who are all on the same difficult path to meditate, restore, and reflect on their own journeys- while supporting each other in ways that only those who truly understand the path to fertility can. I always leave feeling uplifted, refreshed, and stronger than ever!” -anonymous

“Meeting and talking with other women that have been going through the same thing has been one of the most important parts of my journey and my healing.  I no longer feel alone and I finally feel that I am understood.  Along with the connections that I have made with others, yoga, acupuncture and massage have helped me focus on myself and to find my inner peace and strength.  Thank you CNY!”- anonymous

“Yoga for fertility has taught me…
that I have power within myself
to use the power from within
that I have so many blessings
to appreciate my many blessings
that I have so much to offer
to remember to offer what I have
that at any given time, I can find serenity
to tap into that serenity
that I may have limitations
to remember that my triumphs far outweigh any limitations
that it is safe to have faith
to let faith be my guide.” – April

The Green Spot

cnyfc newsletter 5 ways to live a greener life

  • Recycle your used grocery bags. Most grocery stores have bins available for collecting used bags, if they can’t be collected in your regular recycling bin.
  • Garage Sales – the ultimate recycling event! Either having a sale, or buying items at a garage sale gives household goods another go at being used. It’s a win-win situation with recycling and deep discounts.
  • Cut down on water use by scraping food off dishes instead of using water to wash it off, before they go in the dishwasher.
  • Send your old sneaks to a better resting place. Nike collects old sneakers and turns them into cool things like rubbery surfacing for playgrounds. To learn more click here.
  • Set your washer to Cold/Cold. About 85% of the energy your washer uses goes toward warming up the water for the wash. Cut down on the energy being used and you’ll also save money!

Benefits of Grape Seed Extract for
Fertility Enhancement

cnyfc newsletter

We hear a lot about antioxidants and how they are good for us,
and there are many choices from chocolate and green tea to vitamins and
supplements. Proflavanol is one of those options. It is a plant derived
antioxidant combined with extracts from grape seeds. It actually helps your
body remove waste (free radicals) produced by cells when they use oxygen. If
you’ve ever had a car near the beach you know how salty air will cause it to
rust. In much the same way, these by products work
away at your body and wear away its natural defenses and structures. Over long
periods of time they lead to chronic illnesses and debilitating symptoms.

Proflavanol is exciting because it not only cleanses the body of corrosive
materials, but it also strengthens blood vessels and helps the body repair
itself. After taking Proflavanol for
only a couple of weeks, you will begin to notice signs of your body repairing.
Hair comes in thicker and stronger, nails are smoother, and you have more
energy. Over longer periods of time, Proflavanol doesn’t just enhance the
exterior
of the body, but it also cleanses the interior.
Damage caused by poor
diet, stress, and excessive hormones
is mitigated. Proflavanol’s greatest asset to fertility is its ability to
reduce inflammation and help bring the body into balance.

Proflavanol enhances fertility in men by increasing sperm production, enhancing
morphology
(structure of the sperm), and decreasing inflammation in the prostate. These
benefits make the supplement useful not only in the short
term, but insure the long-term health of the male reproductive system.

In women, Proflavanol increases blood circulation to the pelvic area,
decreases inflammation, and reduces the impact of stress on the body. The
overall effect of these changes is an enhanced uterine environment that is
better prepared for
implantation and a healthy pregnancy.  To order Proflavanol, click on the following link www.cnyfertility.usana.com.

cnyfc newsletterA Beginners Guide to Loose Leaf Teas

Tea doesn’t necessarily seem like an edgy or exciting beverage; however, if you have not tried a steeped cup of loose leaf tea, you are missing out on a treat for the taste buds and the body! Recently, I stepped into a tea store that had over 100 different kinds of loose leaf tea. I was given a fascinating introduction to the different types of loose leaf teas, and was briefed on some of the healing and wellness properties. Loose leaf teas are packed with unique flavors, aromas and textures – plus they are full of healthy healing antioxidants. Some blends have as much energy enhancing goodness as a cup of java, but without the jitters or caffeine crash. After my visit to the tea store, I walked away with a healthy cup of tea loaded with energy and antioxidants, and a new appreciation for an old world drink.

There are several different types of tea which can be mixed together for a multitude of flavor and healing benefits. All teas come from the Camellia sinesis plant, except for herbal infusions and blooming teas. The processing of the tea determines what kind of tea the leaves become. The different kinds of teas are created by withering, steaming, shaking, rolling, drying, pan frying, firing and/or fermenting. The eight basic teas include black, green, oolong, white, herbal, rooibos, mate, and blooming teas. Teas have many wellness powers: they can lower cholesterol, help with blood pressure, curb appetites and boost the body full of cancer preventing antioxidants, as well as improve your menstrual cycle and encourage fertility.

Black tea helps prevent heart disease because it stops the absorption of cholesterol into the blood stream. It is also known to be good for regulating blood sugar and preventing tooth decay.

Green tea is often thought of as the “healthy” tea, it is packed with antioxidants which help to prevent cancer, but can also help to regulate blood sugar and lower blood pressure.

Oolong tea is used for suppressing the appetite and improving digestion.

White tea is the healthiest kind. It has a higher amount of antioxidants than green tea, and is known for enhancing the complexion and reducing wrinkles, as well as lowering cholesterol.

Herbal teas include rooibos and mate teas, which are loaded with Vitamin C. Typically they are made up of flowers, fruits and herbs. In fresh loose leaf tea, the flowers and fruits used can be seen and even eaten right out of the tea mix.

Rooibos tea is made from the Aspalathus linearis plant and is one of the best antioxidant teas; it is known for its ability to treat allergies and digestive problems.

Mate tea tastes a lot like coffee and has the same energy boost, but will not cause a caffeine crash like coffee does. It has 21 minerals and vitamins, and also aids in weight loss.

Blooming teas are created by binding tea leaves and flowers together into a bundle with cotton thread. Once the tea bundle is steeped, it will open up to release an aromatic scent or flavor and will create a beautiful design.

Loose leaf teas have an amazing range of flavors-from berry, to nutty, to smoky to minty. The colors of loose leaf teas are vibrant and the aromas are strong and fresh. There is a difference between loose leaf teas and store bought teas in tea bags. Loose leaf teas are 100% tea leaves, whereas tea bags often contain pieces of tea leaves and filler. This can cause the tea’s true flavor and scent to be greatly compromised. Loose leaf tea allows you to mix tea blends easily to experience the same taste again and again. With the extensive variety of flavors and aromas, a cup can be brewed for any palate.

The steeping process is an important part of a good cup of tea. Water is warmed in a tea kettle with a thermometer to ensure a specific temperature. Most tea shops will recommend a temperature and time for their teas to be steeped. The water is poured from the tea kettle into a tea pot, and the tea leaves are put into a basket in the tea pot and steeped. The tea leaves are then removed from the tea pot basket and the tea pot is put on a warmer to maintain temperature. It is not recommended to keep the tea leaves in the tea pot because excessive steeping can cause the tea to become bitter. If a stronger taste is desired, more tea should be added instead of increasing steeping time. Tea leaves are sensitive to heat, moisture and light, and thus should be stored in an air tight container to maintain the flavor, scent and integrity.

CNY Healing Arts offers a line of loose leaf teas that specifically help with a woman’s monthly cycle. The tea is called moontime tea. Women are inherently connected to the moon cycle.  In ancient times, the light of the moon was believed to regulate the menstrual cycle, trigger ovulation, and impact women’s moods and the way they relate to the world. By sipping moontime tea, women can re-align themselves with nature and their most balanced selves. Other loose leaf teas can be found at tea stores including Teavana, which is located at the Carousel, Crossgate and Eastview malls.

Pregnancy Yogacnyfc newsletter

Pregnancy and birthing are wonderful stages in a woman’s life. In Prenatal yoga, you will connect with your innate feminine wisdom that guides you through your pregnancy. You will learn yoga postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama) that are specifically designed for pregnancy, as well as for the “grand finale” of birth.

Benefits of Prenatal Yoga During Your Pregnancy
There are many emotional and physical benefits gained from prenatal yoga. In prenatal yoga, you will strengthen the uterus and pelvic muscles, improve circulation to both mother and baby, aid in digestion and elimination, exercise the spine and increase overall comfort. You will develop a deeper understanding and connection with your body and your baby, and learn important relaxation techniques and positioning options that can be used during birth. The strength and stamina you will build during the classes will help lead to a faster postnatal recovery.

You will also practice specific postures designed to help alleviate many of the discomforts of pregnancy including:
·  nausea and constipation
·  emotional and physical fatigue
·  varicose veins
·  swelling and inflammation around your joints
·  low back pain and sciatica
·  headaches
·  fear and worry

Benefits of Prenatal Yoga for Labor and Birth
Regular practice of prenatal yoga can help promote relaxation, strength, and confidence during your birth. You will remember and draw upon the tools you learned in class to facilitate the labor process, soothe and empower yourself by finding your own rhythm, and improve your physical comfort. Most importantly, you will be familiar with the muscles of the pelvic floor and be more likely to use them effectively. You will also know ways to relax during and between your contractions. These benefits can all lead to a safer and more emotionally satisfying birth.

At least 2 classes per week are recommended to help facilitate a more comfortable pregnancy, birth and postnatal recovery. The classes are open to students of all levels and abilities.

In Touch with Mother Nature
cnyfc newsletter
New York offers some of the most beautiful and plush landscapes in the country. Whether covered in a blanket of snow or in blooming flowers, Mother Nature is vibrant in our area and gives us many reasons to get in touch with her beauty. A part of nourishing the mind-body-spirit connection is enjoying your physical surroundings, no matter what time of year it is. The area offers many great ways to get out and enjoy the spring season. One of the most exciting adventures Mother Nature has helped to create is exploring the river’s white water on a white water rafting tour. If it is something you have never tried before, this spring is a great time to get in touch with nature and create thrilling stories in the process.

Spring is the peak season for white water rafting (WWR) since the thawing snow creates amazing rapids in the rivers. In addition to the natural flowing white water, there are also dam releases that increase the vigor of the rapids. There are several companies that provide guided white water rafting tours and instruction.  WWR is a great activity for all ages and fitness levels. White water rafters range in age from 8 to 88, depending on the type of rapids. Each part of the river creates a different skill level, from little drops to bodacious white water. Starting off on a level 1 will give you the thrills of experiencing nature and the excitement of the rapids.

A typical trip is four to five hours on the river, a break is taken half way through, and there is usually some kind of barbecue or party at the end of the day for all the participants. The raft usually consists of 8 people guised in flotation vests, helmets and paddles. The scenery is amazing as you venture down the river; you will see wild life and often be able to swim in the calmer areas of the water. The guides are fun loving white water enthusiasts, aimed at providing an exciting and safe adventure.

The accomplishment you feel after a great day on the river with friends or family shows that a little bit of excitement can round out your ongoing relationship with Mother Nature, and with your own mind, body and spirit. You will be reliving the moments for years to come. Cost averages around $50-$80 per person depending on the class of river. You can get more information about WWR trips from the links below.

Isotonix Calcium Plus

Calcium is essential for building and maintaining strong bones. NutraMetrix Isotonix Calcium Complete provides the body with an optimal blend of calcium, vitamin D3, magnesium, vitamin C and boron in an efficient isotonic solution that is readily absorbed by the body. Isotonix dietary supplements are a replica of the body’s own fluids such as tears, plasma and breast milk. All fluids in the human body have a certain concentration, which is called the osmotic pressure. The body’s common osmotic pressure, which is isotonic, allows a consistent maintenance of all body tissues. In order for a substance to be used in the body’s metabolism, it must be changed to the isotonic state.

The efficiency of absorption is also affected by the digestive system. All substances that are used in the stomach go through a degradation process (breakdown), before they can be passed through the opening from the stomach to the small intestine to allow absorption. The digestive process can cause substances to lose some nutritive value and the whole process takes time!

The secret of the isotonic process is now becoming more clear. When an isotonic substance enters the body, it is absorbed into the bloodstream rapidly. With isotonic fluids, little nutritive value is lost making the absorption of nutrients highly efficient. There is nothing artificial about it. An isotonic fluid is nature’s own nutrient delivery system.

NutraMetrix Isotonix Calcium Complete paves the way for powerful results since it is in an isotonic form rather than a tablet. Calcium in tablet form is difficult for the body to absorb. People often fail to absorb tablet calcium supplements because it is not blended with vitamin D and magnesium, which are necessary to aid in the absorption and use of calcium.

Even if the calcium tablet is blended correctly, it is often difficult for the body to utilize or break down the calcium. One possible explanation is that many brands use calcium from eggshell or oyster shell, which are not well absorbed by the body. Another reason is because of DCP, which is a binding agent used to hold the tablet together. DCP does not break down in the body.

In addition to binders, some calcium supplements have additives such as chlorine and other chemicals. Even assuming no binders are used in the calcium tablet, the body must still break down a hard-pressed tablet into a usable form. If the tablet cannot be broken down sufficiently in the stomach, then the calcium will not be absorbed, and thus cannot support bodily functions.

Ordinary calcium tablets require stomach acid to dissolve their compounds, but NutraMetrix Isotonix Calcium Complete has no need of stomach acid to be utilized. It delivers an efficient calcium solution that is more readily absorbed by the intestine. Its natural lemon-lime flavor is preferable to the chalky taste of typical chewable calcium wafers or tablets.

Many calcium supplements exist in the marketplace, but only NutraMetrix Isotonix Calcium Complete delivers a potent package of calcium and complementary nutrients through an isotonic system of delivery. This translates into a lower overall cost when compared to calcium supplements in pill form, by making more of the active ingredients available to the body. Do not be misled by ingredient amounts. What really counts is the amount of active ingredients that the body can ultimately use.

SPECIAL for the Month of May:  Buy 1 Bottle of Calcium get your second one for 1/2 price. 1 bottle= 45 days for $18.50.  Contact Cindy Cifaratta at 315-440-1092 or cindyc@cnyhealingarts.com
