A recent study published in Fertility and Sterility, and presented at the 2008 American Society for Reproductive Medicine, reported that laser acupuncture before and after embryo transfer significantly improved implantation rates. This study was performed by practitioners of RMA NJ.The results were from a prospective randomized double blind placebo controlled five armed study of 1000 patients. Patients were randomly distributed into one of five groups (five armed). 1.) patients receiving needle acupuncture 2.) patients receiving laser acupuncture 3.) patients receiving sham laser acupuncture 4.) patients receiving relaxation treatments and 5.) patients receiving no treatment.

Results showed a statistically significant increase in implantation rates for patients who received laser acupuncture.

Laser acupuncture was first developed over 30 years ago in China as a way for practitioners to offer a non-needle option. Research soon spread to America, where acupuncturists found the value of the laser.

Laser acupuncture consists of a red beam “laser” that is between 600-1000 mill watts. The laser is directed at specific acupuncture points to stimulate the body’s energy. The duration and intensity of the beam depends on the condition that is being treated. Laser acupuncture is a nice, non-invasive substitution to acupuncture. Laser acupuncture shows results in treating for infertility, low back pain, carpal tunnel, and TMJ.
