Featured Tonic of the Month for November: Male Tonic
October 21, 2011 by ErikaLutwin
Male Tonic is an herbal formula that helps to prevent swelling of the prostate. Man vine, its main ingredient, is a muscle relaxant that improves the flow of fluid to the prostate muscle. This particular tonic can help with many issues seen in males including erectile dysfunction, impotency, benign prostatic hyperplasia, kidney or bladder infection, dysuria, prostatitis (not acute or infectious), and peyronie’s disease.
The tonic is anti-septic to the urinary tract and removes mucous from the kidney and bladder and reduces chronic urinary tract infections. It also helps to clear the prostate of accumulated debris and relieve prostate swelling.
The few contraindications with this tonic include that it may react with cortisone or Cortisol products, erectile dysfunction medications and anti-depressants. In some cases of hyperacidity, the urine may become darker and have a stronger odor. This is showing that detoxification is working and this will disappear within days.
Male Tonic is our featured tonic and is 10% off during the month of November. Please feel free to contact any Maya Abdominal Therapy practitioner at any of our CNY Healing Arts locations for further information. Click here to contact us.
Featured Tonic of the Month for October: Female Tonic
October 3, 2011 by ErikaLutwin
Female Tonic has a number of uses but overall it is a great hormone enhancer. Some of its uses include fertility enhancing, painful or irregular periods, PCOS, and menopausal symptoms. This tonic contains herbs that help to warm the reproductive organs and has a mild anti-spasmodic action on uterine muscles. It also acts as a uterine cleanser which helps to remove incompletely flushed menstrual fluids from month to month. One of the herbs contained in this tonic, Mexican Wild Yam, is one of the best herbs to help regulate the menstrual cycle because it contains the steroid diosgenin. This steroid is 75% similar to the hormone molecules of estrogen and progesterone. These in turn work to supply the ovaries with required hormones. Additionally, the Mexican Wild Yam helps to alleviate severe hormonal fluctuations of menopause and PMS.
There are a number of contraindications with this tonic so it is very important that you speak with a Maya Abdominal Therapy practitioner so they can review each of these with you. The Female Tonic should not be used in conjunction with any Chinese herbs, birth control, IVF related hormones, hormone replacement therapy, pregnancy or breast feeding.
Female Tonic is our featured tonic and is 10% off during the month of October. Please feel free to contact any Maya Abdominal Therapy practitioners at any of our CNY Healing Arts locations for further information. Click here for contact information at our Syracuse, Rochester and Latham locations.

Video: Maya Abdominal Massage-Uterine Position & Infertility
July 1, 2011 by ErikaLutwin
Hello, my name is Erika Lutwin, Licensed Massage Therapist and a certified Maya Abdominal Practitioner here at CNY Healing Arts in Syracuse. I’m talking just a few minutes today more about the Maya Abdominal Therapy. Maya Abdominal Therapy has been practiced here in the Syracuse location for two years; we’ve had a great deal of success with this. The idea behind the Maya Abdominal Therapy is that we’re dealing with the uterus and guiding the uterus back into position. The uterus is held into place by ten ligaments. Those ligaments attach back on the sacral area. It’s very easy for the uterus to become displaced. It could be from a bad fall on the tailbone, or sacral area, it could be from a past pregnancy. What this is doing, it leads to the uterus becoming displaced. When the uterus becomes displaced, sometimes fertility is an issue, sometimes menstrual cycles are very irregular or they don’t happen at all. So, what we’re doing is trying to guide the uterus back into its optimum place.
We need a little bit of time when we’re doing this. Many times when people are setting up an IUI or IVF cycle, they’re coming in the day before or the week before. We like to have people come in a few times, spread out over a number of weeks so that we can get things kind of going and make those changes happen. We also teach you self-care. That’s where we notice the biggest changes come from is the actual self-care. That only takes us about 5 minutes a day. At a typical session, we have you come in and fill out a very-detailed intake form where we’re going to ask you certain questions; we do the treatment, and then teach you the self-care. Then what we do is we like to have you come back every two or three weeks, again spread out over a few months. Then, we just kind of go with it. We just see if the changes are going to happen and adjust as needed. One of the things that we really do encourage people if you’re coming in and if you’re doing a consult is to come over next door; or if you’re in the Albany or Rochester area location, talking to the Maya Abdominal practitioner, and setting up a meeting or a consult. We can go over a little bit further your health history and we can talk to you a little bit further about what we can do to help you.
If you have any questions, feel free to call us or email us at any time. Thank you for your time.

Featured Tonic of the Month for June: Hortense Female Formula
June 1, 2011 by ErikaLutwin
The Hortence Female Formula is used for uterine fibroids, ovarian fibroids, uterine polyps, and endometriosis.
The astringency of this herbal formula has the effect of pinching off the blood supply to the fibroids, polyps, and errant uterine tissue (endometriosis). Without a blood supply, the fibroids or polyps loosen and fall away from their connection to the lining of the uterus or ovary. Other herbs in this formula work as a uterine flush to assist the body in eliminating the fibroids and polyps vaginally. The herbs used in this tonic also have high levels of anti-oxidants and are anti-inflammatory.
Side effects of this tonic include an increase of menstrual flow and the number of days of a menstrual cycle.
Contraindications include all forms of birth control, hormone replacement therapy, and IVF related hormones, pregnancy and breast feeding. Women with heavy periods should always be treated with caution and start with a lighter dosage.
Miss Hortence Robinson was an herbalist/midwife for over 60 years in Belize. She developed this formula and was a respected and founding member of the Traditional Healers Foundation.
Hortence’s Female Formula is 10% off for the month of June. Please contact a Maya Abdominal Therapy practitioner at any of our CNY Healing Arts locations for further information. Click here to contact us.
