Join Katrin Naumann, certified Hatha Yoga teacher in the Iyengar Tradition, for Part 1 of our Beginner Yoga Series and she will lead you on a dynamic journey of discovery, as you awaken to breath, attune to the structure and spirit of the pose, and transform body, mind and spirit through the grace of life enhancing principles. We will explore the foundational teachings of Yogic Philosophy and Practice and learn how asana not only eases tension in the body and mind, but also helps to develop spinal alignment, balance, flexibility, strength and stamina, as well as focus, concentration, and awareness.
Week 1: March 9th: Intro to 8 Limbs of Yoga, Fundamentals of Pranayama (Breath Expansion), and Basic Yoga Openers with Focus on Alignment through Prop Use, Savasana
Week 2: March 16th: Foundations of Standing Poses, Back Bends, Abdominal Toners, Savasana
Week 3: March 23rd: Basics of Forward Bends, Twists, Inversions, Restorative Poses, Savasana
Part 2: Vinyasa Flow
Join Kaye Smith, ERYT 200 HR, for Part 2 of our Beginner Yoga Series and learn the joy of meditation with movement and breath. We will follow through with the Fundamental Principles of Yoga with an emphasis on Vinyasa Flow. Vinyasa Flow is a style, which draws from the ancient practice of Ashtanga Yoga. Each workshop will start with Pranayama (breathing) and end with Savasana (relaxation). We will cover the Ni Yamas (self observances of the Royal Path of Yoga). Part 2 is suitable for those new to yoga or for those who want to refine their understanding of Asana & the Royal Path of Yoga.
Week 4: March 30: Learn the Sun Salutations A & B. Staying true to the roots of Asthanga Yoga these are core to one’s yoga practice.
Week 5: April 6: Learn classic standing & balancing poses to work toward building a strong foundation.
Week 6: April 13: Practice seated poses that incorporate twists and calming stretches for the spine.
